Say Your Name

I have spent much of my time surfing the net to make sure that I do this correctly. My first 30 days of blogging will be about me learning the process.  Part of that process includes identifying myself and what is important to me.  The other part is sharing my perspective and pointing people in the right direction when it comes to advice on said topics.  For this post, I will be introducing myself in 200 words or less.

My name is Tommeka Semien.  I am a 40 something lady with a bunch of kids, one sibling, one pet, two parents, one significant other, some great friends, and a circle of happiness that includes good people from work and the community.   I am an undercover Type A personality.  I try to remain calm at all times and to not let things get under my skin, but, the truth is that I nip first and keep it moving.

With that type of personality, you are probably wondering why it would ever be okay for me to be number two.  The truth is, I like to win, I like to be right and I don't like to be told what to do.  I also like to see others succeed.  When you commit yourself to the success of others, you have to be 100% committed to taking a back seat.  Number 2 is the absolute place to be.

In the past few years, I've found that I manage my secondary status and thus my happiness by focusing on four areas:

• My children's growing independence
• Saving the world a little bit
• Allowing my parents to parent
• Carving out 15 minutes of joy

Through this blog, LuckyNo2, I will share stories, provide examples and help others connect the dots between number 2 and number 1.
